Shane Endsley & The Music Band
"Jazz keeps slowly widening, and the young trumpeter Shane Endsley is working calmly and effectively at the perimeter." - The New York Times
Ars Nova Workshop presents the Philadelphia debut of emerging composer and trumpeter Shane Endsley's The Music Band. The quartet's second record, Then The Other, is the first release on a new label called Low Electrical Records founded by Kneebody.
Shane Endsley resides in Brooklyn, NY, where he is steadily building his reputation as one of the most unique voices on the trumpet today. DownBeat named him one of the Top 25 trumpeters of his generation in 2007. While most often found playing with the Grammy nominated electro-acoustic quintet called Kneebody, he’s worked with Ralph Alessi, Tim Berne, John Hollenbeck and Josh Roseman. A truly modern and dynamic musician, he can also be found on recordings ranging from modern instrumentalists Steve Coleman, Dave Binney, and Donny McCaslin, to folk and rock icons like Ani DiFranco, Erin McKeown, and Pearl Jam. About this exciting new project, Endsley writes the following: "The Music Band is a long overdue step for me. This group is set to create my second recording as a leader, the previous one being ten years old now. This new recording bounces between energetic roots jazz and graceful patient ballads. The music is tuneful and joyful and is an equally good listen for a jazz newbie or afficionado. The recording features my songs played by Craig Taborn on piano, Matt Brewer on bass, and Ted Poor on drums. Featuring some of the most unique and vibrant players in NY, it is being released on the new Kneebody label, Low Electrical Records.”
